Very intersting list and it's nice to see somebody concentrating on another category than Best Actress (although I am guilty of that myself :-) ).
To tell the truth it was my main goal to give attention to this often forgotten category. There are many interesting performances here.
Supporting actor is an interesting category which I hope to spend more time with in the future.
i agree that michael caine is up there, especially in one of his earlier films. lately he seems to be a token actor to include some cinema royalty or someone from a different generation in blockbusters. that could be seen clearly in this summer's inception, i wrote about it here http://splicedreviews.blogspot.com/2010/08/inception.html
I must digg your post so other folks are able to see it, really useful, I had a tough time finding the results searching on the web, thanks.

I agree with some of them like Chris Cooper but Melvyn Douglas in Hud is too high in my opinion and Christoph Waltz is way too low. I still have to watch many more (it's the category I've seen less performances of overall).
