1996
So the nominees were:
- Brenda Blethyn in Secrets and Lies
- Diane Keaton in Marvin's Room
- Frances McDormand in Fargo
- Kristin Scott Thomas in The English Patient
- Emily Watson in Breaking the Waves
Doing this year was a spontaneous decision but it was requested once and I feel like doing it, so let's see whom I'll pick.
What do you think? What are your predictions for my ranking? Who's your pick? What's your ranking?
Note: I will only start reviewing next weekend.

It will be interesting to see if Watson gains another win from another Actress reviewing in a possible growing consensus, but I think someone else could win still.
1. Watson
2. Blethyn
3. Mcdormand
4. Thomas
5. Keaton
I remember that you said that you didn't like Watson as much as others do so I think you will go with Blethyn or McDormand (both very worthy choices).
We'll see how much I will like Watson. Basically the question is Watson or not Watson. :-)
YAY! A really interesting year! Brenda most likely, but Emily has a chance I think. She should have won.
Well Emily Watson seems to win this every time, I've only seen two of the nominated ones so this is what I think your ranking will be:
1. Frances McDormand.
2. Brenda Blethyn.
3. Emily Watson.
4. Kristin Scott Thomas.
5. Diane Keaton.
Rooting for Blethyn or Scott Thomas!
I love McDormand and despise Thomas, but haven't heard a whole lot about the other three performances. I've never seen them, so this will be an interesting one....
I have only seen Scott-Thomas and Macdormand and both were great.
My predictions:
1. Macdormand
2. Blethyn
3. Watson
4. Scott-Thomas
5. Keaton
Derek: Despise??? Wow, tough words. :D We'll see how much I'll like her. :)
How interesting people predict either Frances or Emily. :)
well blethyn or watson should win please please not mcdormand a true charicature role, why the oscar i will never know,i always liked meryl more than keaton and felt scott thomas was supporting also enjoyed ryder, mattarazzo, kidman and madonna this year.
Lol, maybe despise was a little harsh. My dislike of the movie itself may have rubbed off a bit onto Kristin Scott Thomas's performance, but I'm sure it's not as bad as I remember....hopefully for her...
oh my, interesting year.
There's actually one of them I haven't seen, I'm probably saving it for an unknown reason.
other that that: Emily Watson - BRILLIANT.
