The next year...

I have to wait until 1995 to get Dead Man Walking (last time I saw I borrowed it from the school library, but now there's no school), but I figured that I could do another year until then and I decided that it would be...

1998

And the nominees were:
  • Cate Blanchett in Elizabeth
  • Fernanda Montenegro in Central Station
  • Gwyneth Paltrow in Shakespeare in Love*
  • Meryl Streep in One True Thing
  • Emily Watson in Hillary and Jackie
So who do you predict to win? Who do you want to win?

Cate for the win! I think she'll be your pick. All I know is that Paltrow won't be.........

I actually have only seen Paltrow who was okay but not deserving. Most favor Blanchett who I assume will be your choice.

I just loved Paltrow's performance and the movie (SIL) itself. It is enjoyable to watch again and again. Where as Saving Pvt Ryan, while great movie making, superb direction is a very hard movie to watch and in the future will be considered -Oh that great WWII movie, yah I saw that once.

I'm sorry but I still think that Gwyneth Paltrow was utterly mesmerising in this film. I've seen all the films nominated and loved all the performances (especially Fernando Montenegro). If I was a member of the Academy I would have voted, and still would today have voted for Paltrow. She lit up the screen.
