1986
So the nominees were:
- Jane Fonda in The Morning After
- Marlee Matlin in Children of a Lesser God
- Sissy Spacek in Crimes of the Heart
- Kathleen Turner in Peggy Sue Got Married
- Sigourney Weaver in Aliens
This year is never talked about. OK, almost never. So it will be really interesting. I can barely wait.
What do you think? What's your ranking? What do you predict for my ranking?
Note: I know I posted 2003 already but it turned out that I have to wait a little bit more for In America, so I'm really sorry. I solemnly promise to do that year as soon as I can! I decided to pick 1986 because all the movies were readily available for right now. Sorry again.
The requested years that I've had: 1938, 1945, 1970, 1971, 1981, 1986, 1987, 1988, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2008. From these, 1938, 1945 and 1970 fall into the almost impossible category (1970 is the most likely). 1981 and 1987 could happen but I have to get Anna and Only When I Laugh somehow. However, I'll probably have access to all of the movies of the other years.

Well, that was a fast change! :-)
But I actually prefer this year because it seems so completely open.
My guess for your ranking:
1. Sigourney Weaver
2. Jane Fonda
3. Marlee Matlin
4. Sissy Spacek
5. Kathleen Turner
Yeah, it's gonna be more exciting. Even for me. :D
Yeah, Sigourney will have this in the bag.
Yes this is an interesting year.
1. Weaver
2. Matlin
3. Fonda
4. Spacek
5. Turner
I love Fonda, but her nomination is a joke!
I think it's between Matlin and Weaver! Weaver more likely!
Jane or Sissy for the win!Weaver will probably win, which is fine.
Well, I haven't seen Weaver for 7 years, so it will be interesting to see her again. :)
Sigourney! If if her competition wasn't thought to be so weak, I can't imagine not picking her this year. She's my all-time favorite actress bar none.
Wow! I didn't know you liked her that much! :)
Lol! I guess I just haven't had the opportunity to express my love because she's been criminally under-nominated by the Academy (The Ice Storm? A Map of the World? C'mon Academy!)
I so wanna see The Ice Storm! That sounds so incredibly great.
Oh good! Things get interesting now.
I think 86 is a weak year but the review is more interesting to me as it is not discussed,i prefer undiscussed years!!!,surprised to see turner ranked so low i though this was her most loved performance and wasn't she the favourite.
my rank would be
1 - matlin
2 - weaver
3 - turner
4 - spacek
5 - fonda
oscar omissions julie andrews duet for one, anne bancroft night mother, jessica lange crimes of the heart, margaret langrick my american cousin, meryl streep heartburn!!
Wow, I guess there's a big interest for this year! Glad to hear! Thank you all! :)
Cool! A very rarely discussed year. I don't see why people are so sure that Weaver is going to win? I think Marlee will win, though it's very open this year.
Interesting year, did you see all the comments? And you were complaining about the lack of interest in your blog! I really can't wait to see what you'll think of Jane Fonda, I really liked her performance although it seems like an odd nomination, I hope she isn't last!
Joe: I guess she's the one who created an iconic character. I haven't said anything about this year.
I think there is interest because it is not discussed on other blogs everyone does 1996,2002,1962,1977 etc but this is one rarely talked over, maybe you should do the weak years as they are sometimes the ones that interest us,cheers.
Thanks for the suggestion. I'd love to do less discussed years but there's a common thing among these ones: the movies are really hard to find. :)
But I've already found out what the next year is. I know that I promised to do 2003 but I'll still have to wait for In America. :(
How about 1984 or 1992.
