A day of Amour

I'm in a state of shock at the moment and I'm trembling. I'll just write down this list right now:

Hell yeah:
  • AMOUR: I really feel Amour towards the Academy. Nominating this extraordinary piece of filmmaking, which is easily my pick (so far, I doubt that it can change), was my favorite moment. I feel bad for Trintignant, but that wasn't going to happen and I don't think he gives a shit about a nomination
  • Best Director: Kathryn Bigelow's snub was an OUTRAGE, but I so admire the Academy for going original with this line-up. It really is a tough category with great, gutsy choices.
  • Overall: The Academy surprised us this year and I'm so glad about that.
  • Seth MacFarlane nominated: I'm a fan of this guy, he's a genious. Shut up. :)
  • Tom Hooper was snubbed: I know it's ugly but that guy should do nothing near an Oscar statuette let alone win them. His "talents" might float on tv, but I find him incompetent and lacking.
 Oh no:
  • Nothing else on my little wish-list came true, but never mind, Amour makes up for everything and I hope Adele is winning Best Song.
 CHEERS!

What do you think?

I disagree re: Bigelow.

That movie was terrible.

I know who your personal winner is for 2012....lol. I plan on giving Amour a watch soon, right after Beasts of The Southern Wild.

Well I'll certainly give the director's branch credit for entirely making up their own mind. Not that they made the very best decisions possible, but at least they displayed free will.

Also I'd complain more about Bardem, but unfortuantely I know Waltz is the one who kicked him out.

Now that Amour was obviously really well received by the Academy, I think Riva could pull a surprise win....frontrunners Lawrence and Chastain could split votes, ive heard that theyre good but neither are supposed to be amazing, Watts doesn't have enough momentum and Wallis is waaaayyyy too young to even stand a chance. It could happen!

I think any could win at this point, but Rivera needs a lot of buzz not to mention lots of campaiging to pull off a win. but above all, she needs the BAFTA to pull of a Marion Cotillard and take the prize. Jessica needs Critics Choice, G.G, and the SAG to win, same with Jennifer, but they could both lose the BAFTA and still win.

R-I-V-A can win, in my opinion, out of respect and because it's a stunning performance and there IS love for Amour (lol). I'm not sure if Bafta's enough but it could be. I'm going with Jessica Chastain at the moment, because IMO that could be the movie's only big win and it would also be a compensation. Not sure about Jennifer (haven't seen her) because she could easily win, too, as they clearly went crazy for SLP.

I'm gonna review the year right after finishing 1999. :) I have six weeks and will have more time in February so no rush. :)

Yeah im pretty happy with this year because its much more unpredictable compared to other recent years, particularly in the Best Actress and Supporting Actor categories. It could have been even more interesting if Affleck and Bigelow had been nominated to give Spielberg some competition, but no...

Mark: I actually think it will be tough between Lee & Spielberg. :/

Really? I haven't seen Life of Pi yet, and for some reason I have been somewhat overlooking Lee when considering the Best Director race...but now that you mention it, it makes sense. Apparently it was a very tough film to make, it received 11 noms so it was obviously very well liked, Lee has had a very good track record with the Academy, and they might want to apologize for not giving him Best Picture back in 2005, especially since in retrospect, everyone seems to hate the Crash win. It would make perfect sense if he won. Thanks for helping me gain perspective lol!

Btw, I just saw Beasts of the Southern Wild.....absolutely fantastic. Personally, I think it's the best film of 2012, judging from what I've seen. And Quvenzhane Wallis was amazing. I can't believe that a 6 year old (at the time of filming) could give such a moving, realistic performance. It's making me really excited to see your Best Actress ranking for 2012 :)

Well, I'm not revealing any big secret when I say that I'll review 2012 after 1999. :) (I'll finish it by the end of January).
